FREQUESTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is Skyridge Montessori certified or accredited?
Skyridge Montessori follows the Montessori Method and hires only Montessori-certified teachers, who are also certified through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch. Skyridge Montessori is a registered Independent School, through the BC Ministry of Education, receiving 40% of our tuition costs from provincially funded grants.
What are the tuition fees?
Our tuition fees are subsidized (about 40% of fees) by BC Ministry of Education funding as we are a recognized Independent School. We regularly review similar programs across BC to maintain competitive rates, as well as review the funding available to us through other programs. Annual fundraising throughout our community provides additional funds to provide enhanced programs and facilities for all of our students. Families and staff work together to raise about 5 – 10% of our general operating expenses through fundraising efforts.
What is the average class size and composition?
Skyridge Montessori classrooms are designed for a three year age mix to allow for both individual and social development. The more experienced students share what they have learned with those new to a concept. Each child’s unique personality is encouraged, and each student is respected as an important member of our community.
- Our classrooms are arranged as mixed age groups (3 to 6 years, 6 to 9 years, 9 to 12 years and 12 to 15 years). The classrooms have approximately 20-25 students, each with a Montessori Teacher and an Assistant.
What are the qualifications of Skyridge Montessori Teachers?
Certified Skyridge Montessori teachers must hold a Bachelor’s Degree prior to entering a one-year Montessori training program. All our teachers are fully-trained and accredited post-secondary Montessori Insitutions, approved by the BC Ministry of Education. Many of our teachers also hold Masters degrees in Education and/or other advanced degrees. Our teachers also hold BC Independent School Teaching certificates.
Are scholarships available?
Unfortunately, at this time, we are unable to offer scholarships. In future years, our goal is to scholarships and bursaries, so families can benefit from a Montessori education. Skyridge Montessori recognizes that a diverse student body helps prepare young people to live in an increasingly diverse society. We welcome a broad variety of backgrounds, values, and viewpoints as an integral part of a stimulating intellectual and diverse learning environment.
If you are interested in helping us provide a scholarship program, we would be very happy to discuss the options with you.
What does the school fundraise for?
Squamish Montessori has two fundraising groups:
- Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), who work with both the Casa, Elementary and Adolescent community to raise funds for enhanced programming and equipment for classrooms, arts, sports, and music, as well as outdoor play equipment and community building events and activities.
- Our Building Futures – a new school fundraising committee, who continues to work hard to raise additional funds through Annual Campaign, Events, and Donor opportunities, to expand the school building in the future; with plans to improve the school and community facility.
Do you accept enrollment from other Montessori experienced children?
Yes. Please contact us for further information or visit our admissions information online
Do you accept enrollment from children and families without Montessori experience into the Elementary and Adolescent programs?
Whilst we strongly encourage and offer priority enrolment to families who come with previous Montessori experience, all children are considered for the program on a case by case basis. Acceptance to the Elementary and Adolescent programs is subject to space availability. If you are interested in our programs, we would be happy to speak with you about opportunities at our school, and whether we are a good fit for the student and family. Please contact us for further information.
